SUV crashes into the river in Daytona Beach

- The Daytona Beach Fire Department responded to a vehicle that crashed into the Halifax River in Daytona Beach around 7:30 a.m. Friday morning.

Crews heard the crash nearby and ran out onto the docks behind the station to assist the adult male and adult female that were inside the vehicle. According to DBFD the vehicle lost control when they were driving west on Orange Avenue and hit a light pole on the south side of the street before landing in the water.

The male driver exited the driver side window that was already open and the adult female passenger exited through the back door.

The pair then swam to the nearby docks behind the fire station and were assisted onto the docks by fire personnel.

According to DBFD both occupants refused transportation to a medical facility and only sustained minor injuries. The vehicle went completely under water and only bubbles could be seen coming from the submerged SUV.

A towing company had to be called to remove the vehicle from the water.
