3 injured with shark bites at New Smyrna Beach

- Volusia County lifeguards said three people were bit in three separate incidents in New Smyrna on Sunday.

Lifeguards said the first bite happened at 10:43 a.m. A 43-year-old man from Longwood was surfing when he was bit on the lower leg. He was transported to the hospital.

The second victim was a 36-year-old man from Miami who was bit on both hands at around 11 a.m. Lifeguards said he suffered significant lacerations and was taken to the hospital.

The third victim was a 16-year-old from New Smyrna Beach. Lifeguards said he was surfing when he was bit on the inner thigh at around 1 p.m. Officials said he was not taken to the hospital.

Officials said all three bites happened near the jetty at New Smyrna Beach.
