Sanford mom gets 30 years for daughter's death

- Rachel Fryer, the Sanford woman accused of killing her two-year-old daughter in 2014 was sentenced to 30 years in prison Tuesday morning.

Fryer’s daughter was reported missing in early 2014, prompting a large search and rescue operation.

The child’s body was eventually found buried inside a suitcase in a shallow grave in a rural part of Putnam County.

Fryer initially told authorities her daughter’s death was an accident, but authorities said the evidence pointed toward homicide.

Fryer was charged with first-degree murder, but accepted a plea deal Tuesday.

She plead guilty to second-degree murder, and was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Fryer’s other children were adopted by their former foster mother Penny Jones last year.
