NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - One person is dead after a train hits a vehicle in New Smyrna Beach, according to officials.
The crash happened shortly after 3:30 a.m. on Canal Street, deputies said. The crash happened at the intersection of Canal Street and the railroad tracks.
"It does appear the car was traveling in a northbound direction and it was struck in the rear by the train," said a spokesperson for New Smyrna Beach Police Department.
Police confirm that one person was in the car and they are deceased.
Firefighters said the car caught fire, but was quickly put out.
