ST. CLOUD, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Police in central Florida say a woman who was fatally shot by her mother after being mistaken for an intruder had been visiting for the holidays.
St. Cloud police Sgt. Denise Roberts said Wednesday that the mother fired a single shot after hearing someone enter her home late Tuesday. The person she shot was her 27-year-old daughter, who was visiting from North Carolina.
In a gut-wrenching 911 call, the victim's stepfather asks for an ambulance to be sent immediately and that they need an automated external defibrillator, adding that his stepdaughter has a medical condition. The couple attempted CPR and the mother can be heard saying to her daughter, "I love you." The daughter was taken to a hospital where she died.
Detectives are investigating the case but say so far the mother's story matches the evidence. At this time, they said they believe the incident appears to have been an accidental shooting.
