Osceola Co. deputy-in-training shoots, injures man

- A man is in stable condition after an Osceola County deputy-in-training shot him during a disturbance investigation.

Major Jacob Ruiz, with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, said deputies were investigating a disturbance on Conrad Court at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.

“While deputies were on scene investigating, they encountered a male and shots were fired,” Major Ruiz said.

Deputies have not said whether the man had a gun, what led to the shooting or why the deputy-in-training pulled out his gun.

Ruiz said the deputy-in-training is a sworn officer and was working with a senior deputy at the time of the shooting.

“When a deputy starts off, basically he will be with a senior deputy who’s a certified trainer," he said.

The deputy was not hurt and is being put on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
