Orange Co. deputies search for two home invasion suspects near UCF

Orange County deputies are hunting for two men they say broke into an off-campus apartment near UCF and terrorized two people inside.

Deputies say the suspects fled when one of the residents fired his own gun back at them.

“He shot fired into my room,” said the resident, “and for protectionary reasons I shot back.”

Orange County deputies say he and a female roommate were in their unit at the Campus Crossings apartment when the robbers broke in.

Deputies say they hit the roommate, injuring her. Then the victim said they ransacked the place.

“They pretty much ran through the whole house, looking for anything they could find,” he said.

Upstairs, deputies say the suspects exchanged gunfire with the man before taking off.

The victim says he thinks he may have hit one of them.

Now, he said he and his roommate don't plan on sticking around.

“There's better things in the area, and after an incident like this happened, we definitely have to move out,” he said.

Deputies say they're still interviewing the injured roommate and searching for the suspects.
