ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A brazen robbery attempt at a hotel in Orlando’s busy tourist district has police searching for the suspect.
Residents and visitors are sounding off about the danger in their area.
Ernest Peterson says he was sitting down to watch TV last night.
“Then I heard the 'pop, pop!,' Peterson said. "I thought it was firecrackers or something. I didn't pay no attention to it. I was looking at the TV."
It wasn't fireworks, instead Orlando police say an armed robber held-up two people at the nearby La Quinta Inn on Major Boulevard.
Police say the robber held both victims at gunpoint at the La Quinta parking lot, then shot at both of them before running away.
Police say he hit one victim twice in the arm and hip and missed the other.
Peterson says he's stunned.
“They need to be watching here," Peterson said. "People come from different places, tourists, they need to be up on that man."
Tourists like Brian Bliss and his family, who showed up while the cops were still searching the area.
“All kinds of officers all over the place," Bliss said. "Helicopters circling around and everything."
He says he'll keep a sharp eye out for his family, but also adds that he's taking it in stride.
“No big deal, I come from Missouri,” he said, “so it's nothing dramatic.”
