New charges for man accused of robbing Volusia Co. pharmacy

Volusia County deputies have arrested a man for a pharmacy robbery that happened last month.

They say the suspect locked the employees in the trunks of their cars, before stealing around $65,000 in pills.

The sheriff’s office says Kendall Rockmore, 27, of DeLand is facing several charges in connection to the case.

Ema Alvarado says he approached the employees while they were locking up and then demanded three of them get into the trunks of two cars.

“We’re trying to see any type of light because it was completely dark in there,” she said. “It was just horrible.”

Alvarado says she was locked in for about 20 minutes with another employee.

She says a third co-worker was stuck inside a separate car.

“Being that she’s eight months pregnant I asked – I told the man it was kind of impossible to place her in the back of the trunk because she was so big and he proceeded and said that if I didn’t follow as he said – he would shoot her and the unborn child,” Alvarado said.

Deputies say while the women were trapped, Rockmore went into the store with the pharmacist and stole around $65,000 in pills.

It happed on November 17 at the Pierson Community Pharmacy.

Sunday morning, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office announced Rockmore would be charged.

“I was relieved. I was happy,” Alvarado said.

Deputies say surveillance video helped crack the case.

They say Rockmore showed up as a new customer at the pharmacy in early November, and when he robbed the place a couple weeks later, he had on some of the same clothes.

Investigators say Rockmore was just released from prison in September after serving around nine years.

Now, he’s facing several new charges like robbery and kidnapping.

Alvarado says she and other employees are thankful to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office and the detectives who worked on the case.
