EUSTIS, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Some residents are smoking mad, blaming a medical marijuana nursery for loud noise in their neighborhood.
"24 hours a day, it's non stop," said Ted Miller.
He says owning property next to a medical marijuana nursery off County Road 44A is like living next to a jet engine.
"The noise is coming off the dehumidifiers that they're running."
MedMen Enterprises says it recently upgraded its greenhouse.
"It's got me really upset," Miller said. "I can't sleep at all because of the continuous noise and the stress that it's got me under."
A spokesman from MedMan says the company is taking extraordinary measures to deal with noise complaints stemming from all this equipment.
Medman says it has installed silver silencers on the dehumidifiers to help mitigate the noise.
The company also plans on installing a poly-vinyl fabric to insulate noise and is looking for other solutions as well.
Company officials say they're trying to be a good neighbor.
Miller says, "They did put the silencers on there and told me it's gonna make it a lot more quieter. Well, it hasn't."
Lake County officials are looking into options to resolve the situation.
But according to county code, sounds produced by normal agricultural activities zoned properly are exempt from noise control regulations.
Residents argue this is an industrial issue rather than agricultural one.
They say around 30 neighbors gathered over the weekend to talk about the noise.
Neighbor Jeanine Shawley says, "I have a tree buffer and I can still hear this horrible noise."
Miller says he's not against medical marijuana, or even the smell, it's the noise that's aggravating him.
"They bought this place, moved in and made my life a living hell," he said.
