Melbourne Police use PIT maneuver to stop robbery suspects

Another police pursuit came to a dramatic end near the Brevard and Osceola County line Wednesday on US 192 west of Melbourne.

Melbourne police officers say that they used the "PIT" maneuver to stop a couple of suspects who had robbed a cell phone story around 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon on Wickham Road. PIT stands for precision immobilization technique.

Florida Today reports that maneuver originally failed, but damaged one of the tires on the suspects' vehicle to where they had no choice, but to pull over.

Officers then moved in and demanded the suspects to surrender. Harmony High School was put on lock down while all of this was happening.

Melbourne Police have performed 4 PIT maneuvers in the past week. Each time all of those suspects were arrested.
