Man's decomposing body found in Daytona Beach backyard

- Daytona Beach police are investigating after a man’s decomposing body was discovered in a backyard.
Officers were called to the 500 block of Fairmount Road late Sunday morning.
“I was in shock, horrified,” said Dee Bethea, who lives in the home. “We’d come outside, my niece and the neighbor, she thought maybe it was a sewage leaking, so she continued to follow the smell and she and the neighbor said it looked like a body slumped over the fence back there.”

Police say the body is that of a man, but it’s been there for several days and is badly decomposed.

Investigators say they cannot yet tell or how he died, but they can confirm it was Harold Cantrell, a missing man from the area.

The discovery has left the family of a missing man waiting on pins and needles.

The neighborhood is less than a mile from where Harold Cantrell was last seen.

The 85-year-old, who has Alzheimer’s disease, went missing earlier this month from his assisted living home.
