When officers arrived, the victim was found lying in the middle of Central Boulevard, near Orange Avenue.
“As I was walking down the street, just past the road block sign there, I heard a shot,” said a man who works in the area, but didn’t want to be identified. “When I got back, I discovered a guy lying on the ground in the middle of the road.”
It was around 2:40 a.m. Orlando Police have identified the victim as 23-year-old Richard Burgos. He was rushed to the hospital, but didn’t survive.
Police say right after the shooting, two men tried to get away from the scene, but they were picked up about a block away on Pine Street.
Investigators say witnesses identified the guys as being involved in the shooting and for now, they’ve been arrested on unrelated charges.
The fatal shooting came as a shock to some of the people we talked to downtown. Though, many say it won’t keep them away.
“I think it comes with the territory, with clubs and bars and stuff like that,” said Amanda Areopagita.
“It makes me a little hesitant to want to come downtown with everything that goes on, but you can't let other people’s bad decisions dictate [your] fun or going anywhere – then you’ll live in fear for the rest of your life,” Krista Clarke said.
There are several cameras near where the shooting happened, which could help police.
As for security Sunday night, some people who work in the area said they noticed more police officers patrolling, while others said it was the same as any other night.
