DELAND, Fla. - The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office says a man was shot in the face with a shotgun late Friday night.
20-year-old Samuel Martinez Gallegos was identified as a suspect and arrested Saturday morning.
Investigators say that a masked Gallegos pulled up to 47-year-old Jesus Martinez’s house in DeLand around 11:48 p.m. Friday night.
The shooting victim’s 18-year-old son, Victor Martinez, told officials that the masked man started screaming at him and hitting him in the head with the butt of a gun.
When Jesus Martinez came out of the house to see what was going on, Gallegos shot at him, according to deputies.
Deputies say Martinez shot back at the Gallegos with a handgun.
The suspect was able to get into his truck and drive away.
Jesus Martinez had shotgun wounds to the face, and was taken by air to the hospital.
Investigators say that Martinez’s injuries aren’t life-threatening.
A judge set Martinez-Gallegos bond at $125,000 Sunday morning.
His charges include aggravated battery, armed burglary, shooting into an occupied dwelling, and carrying a concealed weapon.
