Man killed on I-95 in Volusia County identified

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Rush hour drivers were caught in the aftermath of a bad break-up Friday afternoon near the spot where two major interstates meet.

A spokesman for the Ormond Beach Police Department said 24-year-old Printence Dunkley killed himself in a car on I-95 after beating and sexually assaulting his girlfriend.

Authorities say the woman was at his Ormond Beach apartment early in the day to break up with him.  According to police, the victim of the aggravated assault/domestic violence is a Brevard County Sheriff's Deputy who was off-duty at the time of this incident.  None of the victim's issued duty equipment other than a pair of handcuffs was involved in this incident.

Throughout the course of the episode Dunkley allegedly shackled himself to the woman using her department-issued handcuffs.

Police say that when she got away he kicked her down the stairs and fired a gun into the floor.

According to authorities, Dunkley took off in the woman’s car, which was equipped with OnStar security features which helped police locate Dunkley near the spot where I-95 and I-4 meet in Daytona Beach.

Police say that by the time officers approached the vehicle, Dunkley had shot and killed himself.
