KISSIMMEE, Fla. - A man is dead after a fire broke out at a home early morning, according to City of Kissimmee Fire Department.
The call came in for a structure fire on Lilly St. right before 4:30 a.m. Friday morning.
When firefighters arrived on scene they found the home fully involved.
Firefighters attempted to rescue the victim, but the room he was found in was already fully involved by the fire.
The fire department tells FOX 35 that neighbors attempted to rescue the victim before firefighters arrived on scene, but their attempts were unsuccessful due to the fire's intensity.
The victim's wife was home at the time of the fire and was able to get herself out.
A dog and a cat also died in the fire.
"Our firefighters tried their best to rescue the victim but unfortunately the fire had already progressed to a point where they were unable to do so," said Interim Fire Chief Jim Walls. "This is the first structure fire related fatality in the City of Kissimmee since 2005," continue Walls.
One firefighter was treated and released for exhaustion.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal's Office.
