Liquid Tamiflu in short supply during active flu season

Panicked parents all across Central Florida are in search of liquid Tamiflu.

The medicine is typically prescribed to children and is in short supply because of high demand this flu season.

Family doctor Pinkal Patel said if you can't find it, you can change your prescription to capsules.

Just check with your pharmacist and doctor to find the right dosage.

The dosage is based on the child's weight.

"There are other options," Patel said. "You can take a capsule and dump it into applesauce with appropriate dosage and use it that way. There are multiple options. As long as you get the medicine into your child within the first 48 hours, you should be okay."

Fox 35called around to local pharmacies in search of the liquid children's medicine and it took 10 tries before a store had it in stock.

Doctor Patel said, "Don't worry, the medicine is available. It may take some running around to get it, but you will get your medicine."
