Hundreds line up to buy new Tesla without knowing what it looks like

- Hundreds of people lined up to buy a car they've never even seen. On Thursday morning people could pre-register to buy the Tesla Model 3 car, even though you can’t drive it home until late 2017 or early 2018.

Huge crowds showed up early at the dealership to put a $1,000 down payment. “I got here about 4:30am, woke up at 4am. I’ve done this for apple,” said Dennis Henry, who was one of the first dozen people in line at the Eatonville Tesla dealership.

The earlier you arrived the better your chances were to qualify for a $7,500 federal income tax credit, but it’s only available for the first 200,000 Tesla customers. The first person in line, James Efstathiou, arrived a night before at 3:40pm. “This is the first mass produced electric car, long range, auto pilot,” James Efstathiou told us. “There are a lot of great features that don’t exist in any other vehicle right now.”

Another reason that drew in huge crowds: the price tag. “$35,000 for an electric vehicle is amazing considering how high quality Tesla vehicles are,” a customer stated.

Customers told FOX35 News they love the brand, the luxury long-range electric cars, that it can go 200 plus miles per charge, and the technology.

Once the doors opened at 10 a.m., the crowd cheered and in less than 5 minutes you were one step closer to becoming a new Tesla owner.

The Tesla Model 3 will be unveiled Thursday in Palo Alto California at 8:30 p.m. Pacific Standard Time, 11:30pm Eastern Standard Time.
