Deputies investigate double-murder in Pine Hills

Just before 3:30 a.m. Saturday, the call came in of a shooting at the Caribbean Unity Club on Silver Star Road.

“Deputy arrived on scene and discovered a male that was deceased on the scene," said Capt. Angelo Nieves with the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

They found Juan Carlos Illaraza, 26, shot inside a vehicle less than 10 minutes away at John Young Parkway and Princeton.

He was rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Capt. Angelo Nieves said, "Unfortunately, he also succumbed to his injuries.”

Now, two men are dead in what deputies call a double homicide.

Deputies said this is all connected, but what happened isn’t clear yet.

"We know there was an altercation, a confrontation that spilled out into the parking lot where all of this shooting occurred," Capt. Nieves said.

Detectives are hoping any of the people at the club or nearby can help solve the double-homicide.

Capt. Nieves said, “We know there are witnesses out there that can provide us information.”

Miles Morain didn’t see the shootings, but led an already planned community walk against violence in Pine Hills.

They walked right past the crime scene Saturday morning.

Morain said, "It’s kind of like divine intervention. We were meant to be here.”

He’s calling on his community to stop deadly violence like this with “new programs, youth entrepreneurship, grant writing, also learning how to invest your money," Morain said.

The Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information on the double-homicide to call Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS.
