Walmart shoplifting suspect shot by customer, dies

Orange County deputies say a man accused of shoplifting from a Walmart has died after being shot by a customer who stepped in to help.

Deputies say the 19-year-old suspect died at the hospital after being found a Citgo gas station with gunshot wounds.

The shooting happened outside the Walmart Neighborhood Market on Clarcona Ocoee Road.

Deputies say the the 19-year-old suspect and three other people were stealing baby items from the store.

Deputies say after the suspects ran out of the store with the merchandise, employees followed and a confrontation happened by a car in the parking lot.

Investigators say the car the four people were in was reported stolen after a carjacking on January 14.

Deputies say a customer came to help the employees, but when the customer felt threatened, investigators say the shopper fired a gun that belonged to him and shot the 19-year-old suspect.

Investigators say the suspects then drove off and crashed into two cars in the parking lot before bailing out and running off.

The man that was shot ended up at a gas station across the street and later died.

Right now, deputies are looking for the other three suspects.
