One person is dead in Volusia County after a shooting that started with a robbery.

Deputies say two women were robbed at gunpoint at the Park and Ride on Saxon Boulevard in Orange City on Sunday.

Deputies were able to pull over the suspect's car in DeLand, and a female driver was taken into custody.

Deputies tell Fox 35 that a male passenger in the car would not comply with orders from investigators.

They say he was armed with a knife.

Deputy Chief Eric Dietrich, of the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, says the deputies felt they were forced to take action and use deadly force by firing their weapons.

The male passenger died on scene.

The Sheriff's Office tells Fox 35 the deputies involved in the shooting with be on paid leave until an investigation into what happened is complete.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is now investigating.
