DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - The countdown to the Rolex 24 has started and the hotel rooms are going fast.
The big race is big business for Daytona Beach hotels.
“We have full bookings all the way through the Rolex and all the way into February for Speedweeks and Daytona 500,” said Amanda Pace, Streamline Hotel general manager.
They're not the only ones.
The newly-renovated Streamline Hotel in Daytona Beach is one of the many properties booked-solid ahead of the Rolex 24 race.
From its roof-top bar you can see downtown Daytona Beach, including the Daytona International Speedway.
They say these three months are when Daytona Beach hotels make most of their money for the entire year.
“These three months are the cusp of our tourist activity," she said. "Going into summer we obviously have a lot of people coming in for summer vacations and things like that, but the draw of Daytona will always and forever be the NASCAR season.”
They say it's shaping up to be a good season, with up to a quarter of their bookings even coming from overseas visitors.
“Last year, and a couple of years before that, the attendance was down,” Pace said. “People weren't traveling as much. We have seen an up-swing this year, for sure.”
