DEBARY, Fla (WOFL FOX 35) - The Mayor of DeBary says he's not going anywhere despite being sued by his own city.
Mayor Clint Johnson got into a heated exchange with members of the city council Wednesday night after they voted to sue the mayor over public records.
"If you're dead set on suing me don't waste my time," Mayor Clint Johnson said in the middle of the public meeting. "Don't waste their time, and don't waste everybody's money, just say we're going to sue."
The lawsuit centers around public record requests that Johnson argues are personal. The city had discussed filing the lawsuit earlier this month, but decided to table the decision until after a meeting next month.
However, according to the Daytona Beach News Journal, the city decided to go ahead with the lawsuit Wednesday night after Johnson posted messages on social media referring to those requesting records as "terrorists".
"The citizens have the legal right to have the records," city council member Rick Dwyer said. "They've not been given so this is the only way , the only avenue I think we had left was to file the suit."
