ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35)
The Central Florida American Muslim community organized a peace rally Sunday night.
The rally represented the largest collaborative American Muslim event in Florida and was held at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts at 7 p.m.
"The Islamic faith is inherently against any form of injustice and violence, and the American Muslim community has always been the first to condemn any form of hate crime or act of terrorism. We are often the victims in these incidents," says spokeswoman Rasha Mubarak. "This is a collective effort to demonstrate that our belief does not condone these atrocities attributed to our faith by the likes of ISIS and their sympathizers."
The organizations that participated included area Mosques, charities, civic and civil rights organizations from Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake, Brevard and Volusia Counties.
Central Florida is home to about 50,000 American Muslims.
