Brevard County School Board candidate arrested after disrupting meeting

- A Brevard County School Board candidate is out of jail after being arrested during Tuesday night's meeting.

Dean Paterakis was arrested as the board was discussing whether or not to hold another public meeting on the district's transgender bathroom policy.  Deputies say Paterakis started using inappropriate language and then refused to stop when asked by the school board.

In video recorded by Florida Today, a school security staff member is seen physically moving Paterakis from the podium.  Deputies arrived and asked him to leave, but they say he dropped to the ground and refused.  He was eventually carried out of the building and taken to the Brevard County Jail.

Paterakis is running for the District 4 seat on the school board. On his campaign website he says he is a teacher, parent, and a veteran. Paterakis claims that schools no longer put children first.

Paterakis was released from jail after posting $1000 bond.
