People in Brevard County could soon be paying more to drive.
One commissioner is proposing a plan to raise the county's gas tax.
Commissioner Jim Barfield wants to raise Brevard County's gas tax by six cents to make up for "underfunded road maintenance."
Officials say it can only re-surface eight miles a year with their 14 million dollar budget but with a gas tax hike the commissioner says it can increase that number to 55 miles a year.
Barfield is expected to present the proposal to the planning and zoning department at the county commission meeting next week.
