Body recovered in Ocala National Forest identified, death investigation continues

- The Marion County Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday that the body recovered at Ocala National Forest has been identified and that they are continuing their cause of death investigation. 

The Marion County Sheriff's Office released the following statement: 

On January 25, 2016, a Missing Adult report was generated by the Ocala Police Department after Christine Stern reported that she had reason to believe her son, Thomas Lombardo (DOB: 08/09/1971) was missing.

Mrs. Stern stated she last had contact with Lombardo on January 14th when she made arrangements for him to move down to Melbourne, Florida on January 18th. Mrs. Stern further advised that her son had not returned any text messages since January 17th.

Several law enforcement techniques were utilized in an effort to locate Lombardo. Through those techniques, it was determined that Lombardo was last seen within the jurisdiction of the Marion County Sheriff's Office. On Friday, March 4th, the human remains of a male individual were recovered from the Ocala National Forest off Forest Road 50.

The remains were taken to the Fifth Judicial Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy, which was conducted on March 5th. The cause and manner of death is still under investigation. However, through fingerprint examination, the body was positive identified as Thomas Lombardo's.

At this time, the investigation is on-going and MCSO Major Crimes detectives are following up on
leads into the death of Mr. Lombardo.
