ORLANDO, Fla (WOFL FOX 35) - An Orange County community is coming together to remember a local teenager who died while battling cancer.
Faculty and staff at Bishop Moore Catholic High School will hold a moment of prayer Monday morning for senior Joe Skinner.
Skinner was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia back in December and was scheduled to undergo experimental treatment.
However, according to the Orlando Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1rcbgLn), Skinner died over the weekend from a non-cancer related infection.
Before his diagnosis Skinner led his high school baseball team to the regional finals and was awarded a baseball scholarship to the University of Central Florida.
Bishop Moore Catholic High School released the following statement: "As a community sustained by God's love, we celebrate the amazing presence Joe was and will remain in the lives of his Bishop Moore Catholic family. Joe has been and will always be an inspiration to us all."
An outpouring of support hit social media throughout the weekend with the hash-tag #SkinnerStrong.
