DELAND, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Residents in one DeLand neighborhood are keeping their eyes on a black bear spotted in a tree on Sunday.
“My 22 years living here, this is my first time seeing one,” said Jack Lee.
He says he came across the animal while working in his backyard.
He looked up and the bear was right above him.
“I said, ‘Wow! My life's in danger.’ He was right over me,” Lee said.
But, the bear just sat in the tree for hours.
His head tucked between the branches and legs hanging down the other side.
People from the neighborhood stopping by throughout the day to see the animal.
Just a few days ago, a similar scene played out in Altamonte Springs when a bear and cubs moved into a residential neighborhood.
Florida Fish and Wildlife officials say if you get too close to a black bear, don’t stare into its eyes, back up slowly and speak to the bear in a calm voice.
