Atlas V rocket successfully launches out of Cape Canaveral

- It was a successful launch for Atlas V EchoStar XIX Sunday afternoon from Cape Canaveral.

The rocket propelled a powerful communications satellite into the sky.

“There are a lot of different communications satellites up in orbit. This satellite has a lot of capability – a lot of transponders to be able to provide internet service to a very broad global market,” said Tony Taliancich, director of launch operations at Cape Canaveral for the United Launch Alliance (ULA).

ULA says the satellite will increase capacity for HughesNet, which provides high-speed satellite internet service.

The wind and a hold to deal with some sort of issue didn’t stop the mission from happening.

With a launch window starting at around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, take off happened at 2:13 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

The next launch for ULA is scheduled for January 19 in Cape Canaveral.
