Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies say they have the suspect in custody who they believe is responsible for several recent violent home break-ins near Rio Grande, stealing money and terrorizing the folks whose homes he’s breaking into. 31-year-old Ralph Ductan was charged with armed robbery, burglary of occupied dwelling, criminal mischief, and miscellaneous theft charges.
Ductan didn't have anything to say to reporters as he was hauled out of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office substation and hauled off to jail. Investigators say Ductan is responsible for at least three recent home break-ins where people were home including one where a mother was home with her young children. Deputies say they were able to identify Ductan from some video on a cell phone from a witness and help from the public.
Detective Kathleen Ela is thankful they have Ductan off the streets. “He was violent and he was continuing to get more violent the longer this went on. He was definitely looking for money. He wasn’t going to stop until he got what he wanted so it was very important to us to get him off of the street,” said Detective Ela.
At this point investigators are still looking into whether Ductan had an accomplice. They also told FOX that they're looking to see if Ductan is responsible for a few other recent break-ins in that same area.
Ductan went before a judge Saturday morning who decided to deny him bond for his charges.
