Ambulance stolen in Sanford with a paramedic inside

An ambulance was parked outside a Sanford hospital Tuesday afternoon, when a person jumped inside the vehicle while it was running and took off with a paramedic still inside.
Authorities say there was a short pursuit and the paramedic was able to jump out unharmed.  The person who took off in the ambulance has been taken into custody.
James Sessions, 43, of Sanford, faces charges of grand theft of a motor vehicle and hit and run.  During an appearance before a judge on Wednesday, a public defender said Sessions has a history of mental health issues but is not a hardened criminal.
The ambulance was parked outside Central Florida Regional Hospital when the paramedic was working inside the vehicle.  Police said Sessions drove the ambulance about a mile down Airport Blvd. before the paramedic was able to escape.  Sessions eventually stopped at a dead end in a gravel yard on Jewett Road.
