ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - If you plan on flying this Memorial Day weekend be prepared for big crowds at the airport. AAA predicts Orlando International Airport will be the busiest airport in the entire country.
OIA employees are urging passengers to come to the airport at least 2 hours before their flight. They say if you are traveling internationally, it is best to come 3 hours prior.
Some travelers Fox35 spoke with say they're coming even earlier than that because of the holiday weekend. Orlando International Airport says it expects a 12 percent increase this holiday weekend meaning close to 600,000 travelers are expected to pass through OIA during the 5 day travel period from Friday to Tuesday.
Friday and Saturday are expected to be the busiest days and on Sunday OIA says more than 130,000 travelers are expected to pass through the airport.
AAA says it expects Orlando to be the nation's number 1 destination for Memorial day travelers.
The airport is also using Ambassador staff members to help passengers go through security quicker by helping them with items they can and cannot take before going through security checkpoints.
