MELBOURNE, Fla. - Melbourne Police have apprehended 49-year old Gavin Chung for questioning. He’s accused of trying to kill his wife in front of the Holmes Regional Medical Center.
According to police, Chung pointed a gun and shot through his wife’s open car window, somehow missed her, but shot her cell phone out of her hand. He’s facing attempted murder along with several other felony charges that stemmed from early in the morning in Palm Bay.
It was around 7:30pm when Chung’s wife, which police officers will not name because she’s a domestic violence victim, was in her car in the hospital emergency room parking lot. Police say he walked up to her and fired one shot from his 40-caliber handgun. She had her window down and police say the bullet just missed her head but struck her cell phone out of her hand. She was not injured but Chung took off. As a precaution, the hospital and Melbourne High, which is nearby, were placed on locked down. This confused people trying to visit loved ones at the hospital.
"It's been going on quite a while now, makes me think something more is going on," said Randall Crockett who tried to see his son at the hospital. "We just pulled in and police told us they were looking for someone, now I'm out here waiting to see my son."
