VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla (WOFL FOX 35) - Tropical storm Colin's rain water has created a new hot bed for mosquitoes to breed in and spread the threat of the Zika virus, but some counties have employed new traps to catch those mosquitoes before they bite.
Volusia and Seminole county have started using the new traps that specifically trap mosquitoes that carry the Zika virus. Officials say the traps were sent over from the CDC in Puerto Rico.
So far 12 have been placed out in Seminole County and Volusia county Officials have three dozen at their disposal.
The traps were originally designed to catch mosquitoes carrying either dengue fever or chickengunya fever but the type of mosquito that can carry both of those sicknesses can also carry Zika.
