11 rescued from Indian River, boat capsized

Eleven people were rescued in Titusville Sunday afternoon, after their small boat took on water and capsized.

Titusville fire officials say they received a call about an overturned boat in the water, near the A. Max Brewer Bridge.

The group had been spending time on an island in the Indian River when bad weather moved toward them.

Rescuers say the group of 11 people, nine adults and two children, were in a small bass tracker, so they had to make several trips to get everyone back to shore.

On one of those trips, the boat started taking on water and capsized.

Officials say four people ended up in the river.

Titusville fire officials and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission dealt with rough conditions, slowing down the rescue.

But, officials say everyone was eventually rescued and no one was hurt.
