ORLANDO, Fla. - I-4 was shut down in the early morning hours on Tuesday due to an accident caused by a wrong way driver that left two people dead.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol at approximately 3:20 a.m. a green 2000 Honda van was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-4 near Sand Lake Road. A 2007 Toyota taxi was traveling westbound on I-4. The van struck the taxi head on. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor.
Both male drivers died at the scene. Westbound I-4 was shut down at Kirkman Road. Westbound lanes have been reopening throughout Tuesday morning.
The drivers have been identified. Fernando Clemente III, 44, of Orlando was driving the Honda van while Harold Fabre, 39, of Orlando was driving the 2007 Toyota taxi. This crash remains under investigation.
