ORLANDO, Fla (WOFL FOX 35) - Orange County Sheriff deputies are investigating an early morning armed robbery at a restaurant called Gators Dockside, off of South John Young Parkway.
Deputies said it was just passed 2am when the restaurant was about to close when an armed man barged in, brandished a gun, and demanded money.
An employee took the suspect in a backroom where the money was kept, and somehow things escalated and investigators said the suspect fired twice, shooting the employee at least once.
Deputies said that's when the suspect grabbed the cash and took off running.
The employee was taken to Osceola Regional Hospital. He is expected to be ok A second person was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Deputies said he was not shot but spooked by the gun.
Orange County Sheriff deputies told FOX35 the suspect left a money trail and noticed a white Mustang speed off when they arrived.
The suspect is described as a black male about 22 years old and was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt. He had his face covered during the robbery.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance video and interviewed about half a dozen customers that were inside during the time of the robbery.
Deputies located a possible suspect vehicle at a nearby hotel and are working to figure out if it is connected to the armed robbery.
