Stray spaniel found with nearly 6 pounds of matted fur

Harold, a stray Spaniel, was found this week severely neglected in the Fruitland Park area.

Lake County Animal Shelter staff removed nearly 6 pounds of matted fur and the 5-year-old pup is already feeling much better.  By Friday the dog was excited to see shelter employees; running around his kennel when they walked up.

Shelter leaders said Herold is still battling some infections from all the extra hair and suffers from limited vision, but he’s on the fast road to recovery. To make his outlook better, the shelter had already received dozens of inquiries Friday morning from people interested in adopting Herold.

Shelter leaders said there was little dirt in Herold’s matted fur when he was found; leaving them to believe he wasn’t wandering for long rather he wasn’t properly cared for.
