MIRAMAR, Fla. (WTXF) A 40-year-old Philadelphia woman is accused of killing her 8-month-old son and 3-year-old daughter during a visit to South Florida.

FOX 29 spoke with the woman's husband.

Anthony Singleton stood outside his Philadelphia home overcome with grief. He cannot believe that his wife of 4 months, 40-year-old Sophia Hines, is accused of murdering their 8-month-old son St. Leo and her 3-year- old little girl while visiting a relative in Florida.

"I just don't know how this happened. I really don't," he said.

The children were found dead in the relative's home in Miramar, a Fort Lauderdale suburb on Wednesday afternoon. They were discovered lying side-by-side in a bed, unresponsive, according to a police affidavit.

Hines admitted to investigators that she suffocated her children with a bed sheet, holding it over the mouth of the baby boy first, then the little girl, according to authorities.

"She would be the last person I would ever think that would do something like this to a kid," Singleton explained.

Singleton says Hines loved her children, and as far as he knew, everything was fine.

The last time he talked to his wife, who he's been with for two years, was on his birthday on Monday. The family says they thought Hines was in New York visiting her brother and would be returning home to Philadelphia Thursday. Family members say Hines was suffering from postpartum depression and had stopped taking her medication. Singleton's grown daughters are just as heartbroken as their dad.
