ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Members of Cadette Girl Scout Troop 107 chose to construct raised, PVC cat beds for the Alachua County Humane Society to fulfill requirements for their Silver Award Project. The Scouts spent several months fundraising to purchase materials for 30 raised, PVC cat beds.
The beds are used to create additional, vertical space in cat cages. This extra space creates an enriched cage environment and prevents diseases in shelter cats. The beds allow for separation between food and litter boxes and can create an enclosed space for frightened cats.
As you can see from the enclosed photos, our cats have already put the raised cat beds to good use! “I’m very proud of the Girl Scouts’ efforts to raise money, construct and donate these cat beds to our shelter,” said Volunteer Program Manager Sarah MacLennan. “With limited space, shelter cats need beds like these to feel comfortable and reduce stress.”
The Alachua County Humane Society is a limited intake, no-kill animal rescue shelter. ACHS has been dedicated to helping healthy and treatable dogs and cats in Alachua County, Florida for more than 40 years. Our goal is to become a community where no healthy or treatable animal is euthanized due to lack of space.
Alachua County Humane Society is located at 4205 NW 6th Street, Gainesville, FL 32609.
