In a daring late-night climb, a British man and his team scaled the Eiffel Tower in Paris, then hid from security guards trying to catch them. James Kingston recorded video of the climb and posted it online Sunday. He said it happened more than a year ago.

Kingston claimed he had initially planned to buy tickets and sneak out of a stairway, but abandoned the idea because the landmark was too busy. So he said they slipped past armed guards shortly after midnight, and started to climb. He called it a "slow" process, but said they eventually made it to the tower's top platform.

That's when Kingston said he heard shouting from a radio, indicating the guards had spotted them. He said the climbers started to hide, evading security for hours.

Kingston claims guards spotted the climbers again roughly eight hours after they started scaling the tower. The climbers moved back down to the ground, and police handcuffed them. Authorities released them without filing charges, Kingston said.
