Officer breaks window to rescue toddler trapped in hot car

- An 18-month-old girl had to be rescued Monday after getting trapped in her mother's car in Utah, and the dramatic scene was captured on an officer's body camera.

The doors were locked, the keys were inside, and the girl didn't know how to unlock the doors.  The temperature was 78 degrees outside, but closer to 100 inside the car.

Logan police officer Matt Woods was the first to arrive on the scene, which was outside the little girl's grandmother's house.  He gave the girl's mother a choice -- wait for another officer with equipment to unlock the door, or break a window.

Mom Alma Zamarripa eventually gave Officer Woods a hammer.  He smashed the window -- cutting his hand -- but the girl was rescued.

Paramedics were called as a precaution.  The toddler was treated at the scene and is going to be OK.

"I'm just thankful that we have caring police," Zamarripa told FOX 13 News in Salt Lake City.
