WILTON, Conn. (WOFL FOX 35) - Soap opera fans lost a luminary earlier this month in the death of actor David Hoyt Canary. Canary, 77, died of natural causes on November 16, according to his family.
Canary was born on August 25, 1938 in Elwood, Indiana to Hillary Canary and Lorena Heal, but grew up in Massillon, Ohio. According to an obituary posted by his family, after turning down an offer to play professional football for the Denver Broncos in the first year of their existence, Canary took off for New York City to pursue his passion for acting.
Canary had a recurring appearance on "Bonanza" as Candy Canaday, but he was probably best known for his 26 years of playing twin brothers Adam and Stuart Chandler on “All My Children.” He won five Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Actor and received 16 nominations before retiring in 2010. Canary is survived by his wife, Maureen, his son, Christopher, and his daughter, Kathryn.
