Man gets life sentence for shooting at deputies

- A north Florida man has been sentenced to life in prison for shooting at deputies following a domestic violence call.

The Ocala Star-Banner reports that a judge upheld 54-year-old Richard Braccia's mandatory sentence Tuesday. He was convicted in September of attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer, along with other charges.

Authorities say Braccia had been drinking and watching football in December 2012 when he became upset with the game. A Marion County Sheriff's Office deputy responded to his Silver Springs Shores home after his wife called 911.

Authorities say Braccia fired several shots at the deputy as the deputy ran for cover in nearby woods. At least five other deputies responded during a standoff that lasted several hours, and authorities say Braccia fired at them, too. He eventually surrendered.
